What is PSHE education?
PSHE is a non-statutory curriculum subject that is taught once a week at Downe Manor Primary School from KS1-KS2.
(Personal, Social, Health and Economic) education is a planned, developmental programme of learning designed to help learners develop the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives, now and in the future.
The benefits to pupils of such an approach are numerous as PSHE prepares them to manage many of the most critical opportunities, challenges and responsibilities they will face growing up. It also helps them to connect and apply the knowledge and understanding they learn in all subjects to practical, real-life situations while helping them to feel safe and secure enough to fulfil their academic potential.

At Downe Manor, we believe it is important and crucial that all children have access to a broad and varied curriculum. We truly believe in treating all children as individuals. Through PSHE children learn the skills needed in order to become critical thinkers and to help themselves in various social situations for the future.
By the time children leave in Year 6, our aim and personal responsibility as a school is that we want all our pupils to have over the years built their knowledge, confidence and understand their self worth and place in society.
Educational research and feedback from young children has proven that if effective PSHE lessons being experienced from a young age it has led to them making wiser choices in their future.
