Downe Manor Primary School

Downe Manor, where everybody has the opportunity to be inspired to reach their full potential through memorable learning experiences

Ofsted Information

Previously the school was judged as ‘Good’ in March 2017. However, in our recent May 2022 inspectionthe school was judged overall to be within the category of ‘Requires Improvement’. You can read the full inspection report through the link below.

The key areas which require improvement were identified when I took up post at the school and the Senior Leaders and staff are working hard on these to ensure that ‘all pupils have access to a broad curriculum’.

The inspectors found many positive strengths within the school and were satisfied that the school is already making progress towards ensuring high quality teaching and learning for the children of Downe Manor Primary School especially ‘working on developing their overall  curriculum thinking and training that staff will need’.

Focussed inspection of the core subjects reading and maths showed strong development and this was also the case in foundation subjects, history and computing.

Inspectors found that safeguarding is effective, that children are well behaved and enjoy coming to school.

The four areas to improve on are

  • Full curriculum development of foundation subjects such as PE and music
  • Develop subject leader knowledge
  • Curriculum implementation- teaching in some foundation subjects
  • Assessment of the curriculum for all subjects

On 19th July, we held a parent engagement session so that questions about the report were posed and answered by school leaders, the minutes from this meeting are linked below. School leaders will be holding a progress update meeting in spring and summer 2023 for parents to share the improvements. We will also provide regular updates on newsletters and parent communication.
